Texture Tab Preferences
The Preferences dialog (which in the plug-in version can be opened from the Menu button) contains the following settings relevant to the Texture Tab:
-
Show Straighten Seed: This option selects whether the Straighten Seed window should appear automatically each time a new seed is added.
-
Show Seed Pattern: This option controls how the Seed Pattern window is to be displayed: each time a seed is added, only if the pattern of the added seed is not detected or don't show the Seed Pattern window automatically at all.
These two settings are also available in the Straighten Seed and Seed Pattern dialogs.
3D Material Tab Preferences
The Preferences dialog (which in the plug-in version can be opened from the Menu button) contains the following settings relevant to the 3D Material Tab:
-
Normal Map Y-Axis: This option selects whether the normal map should be saved with Y-axis (green channel) positive values pointing up or down (default). If you're having problems in other applications with exported normal maps please try flipping this setting.
-
Normal Map X-Axis: This option selects whether the normal map should be saved with X-axis (red channel) positive values pointing left or right (default). If you're having problems in other applications with exported normal maps try flipping this setting.
-
3D Map Save Suffixes: The suffixes automatically added when you save all 3D material maps.
-
Preview Resolution: The number of megapixels (one megapixel is 1024x1024 pixels - this means for example that a 2048x2048 image has 4 megapixels) above which PixPlant will display a scaled preview, both in the 3D Preview area and in the Normal/Displacement/Specular/Diffuse maps displayed at the panel on the right. Scale-down is only performed for maps above this resolution and only for display purposes: all maps are saved/copied to clipboard in their native resolution without any quality loss.
If you observe slowdows with large maps, either on the 3D Preview or after changing a setting on this tab, decrease this value. This is also useful if your GPU has small memory and you need to generate large 3D maps.
Please note that 3D Preview quality may decrease for larger textures as they have to be scaled down to match this setting. This only applies to the preview as the generated maps are always saved/copied to clipboard in their full resolution.
-
Anti-Alias 3D Preview: This option selects whether the 3D Preview should render with anti-aliasing (only if supported by the 3D graphics card). You'll need to restart PixPlant for the change to work.
Note: PixPlant versions before 2.1.65 included two more settings - Normal Map Preview and Preview Mip Maps. These settings were found to be unreliable across different GPUs; and since the 3D Preview is a really a just a preview and not the final render (with all the extra sets of options) we chose to remove these settings on version 2.1.65.
Also available in the Preferences dialog is the JPEG quality level, used when saving JPEG files both in the 3D Material and Texture tabs.
